Our History
Founded in 1939 in Saint-Justin, Quebec, the family business Les Métiers Clément specializes in the manufacturing of traditional wooden looms. Its craftsmanship was officially patented in 1943 by its founder, Jules Clément.
Over the years, the company grew under the leadership of the Clément family. From 1963 to 1989, Claude Clément, son of the founder, actively contributed to the development and improvement of the looms, thus participating in the refinement of the models we know today.
Production subsequently ceased due to a decrease in demand for artisanal weaving.
In April 2026, after a 37-year hiatus, Marcel Clément, grandson of the founder and representative of the third generation of the family, undertook the relaunch of Métiers Clément manufacturing in the original Saint-Justin factory.
Driven by a renewed interest in craftsmanship, weaving, and handmade creations, this revival marks a new chapter in the company’s history.
Thanks to the collaboration of a weaver and the reconstruction of the original plans, it is now possible to reproduce models faithful to the 1943 patent, while perpetuating the family’s craftsmanship and legacy.
Today, Les Métiers Clément are bringing back to life a Quebec tradition that spans generations, combining authenticity, passion, and a love for work well done.

LOOM AND ACCESSORY FEATURES
CONSTRUCTION
The "CLÉMENT" loom is built very robustly from hardwood. All bolted joints are also mortise and tenon assembled. Several parts are laminated to ensure greater overall rigidity. Most metal parts are arc-welded, while the others are made of cast grey iron.
FINISH
The "CLÉMENT" loom and its accessories are carefully polished, first with a coarse-grit sander and then with a fine-grit belt sander. The wood is given a natural-colored finish. A first base coat (sealer), followed by a coat of synthetic varnish dried at a very high temperature, gives it a particularly hard and durable finish. All metal parts are coated with an aluminum-based paint, then oven-dried at a temperature of 200 °C.
OPERATION
As can be seen in the illustrations, the "CLÉMENT" loom is designed without cords, rollers, or lams, thus eliminating many of the drawbacks associated with these elements. Its system, both modern and ingenious, requires less effort from the weaver and ensures a wider passage for the shuttle between the threads, which saves time and energy.
PERFORMANCE
Among hand looms, the "CLÉMENT" loom stands out for its speed of use and low maintenance requirements. Its pedal system, very solid and precise, requires no adjustment. The reed beater is heavier, which facilitates the weaver's beating motion. The distance between the harnesses and the breast beam is also greater, allowing for a wider opening and easier passage of the shuttle.
APPEARANCE
Particular attention has been paid to the appearance of the "CLÉMENT" loom, without compromising its efficiency and proper operation. Its refined finish gives it the appearance of an elegant piece of furniture, perfectly suited to the modern home.
ADVANTAGES
The "CLÉMENT" loom offers several unique advantages. The absence of cords, rollers, and lams allows for a considerable reduction in its height, while giving it a more streamlined appearance. This design also makes it less bulky, easier to use, and simpler to maintain.
